Millie, I agree that habitcal cannot help in stopping smoking - I'm using it merely as a public form of accountability, similar to telling people about my intentions, as you mentioned. And I'm really glad I gave up sugar years ago: there's only one set of cravings to bulldoze through.

I don't own a scale, but go to the pharmacy once a month to be weighed. I think that if I weighed myself every day, or even weekly, I'd focus on the short term results, and, as other posters have remarked, it's so easy then to then act impulsively based on what the scale said.

I saw it too, KCCC and was quite inpsired by the idea. Most New Year's resolutions are pretty generic, one-size-fits-all, but having to focus on only one word forces one to sit down and really think about the year ahead.
