Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Friday of my first five days was hard, but I did not snack even though my DH grazed his way through the afternoon. It will interesting to see how I handle an S day....any advice?

Don't try to make the S day behavior that important to start. The hardest part is balancing between having food because you can, and what will really feel special. Sometimes, it's absolutely worth me eating while standing at the fridge, for example, but most times not. You can't know that ahead of time. N days are where the important changes happen at first, and those effects bleeding into S days can take awhile.
But don't feel obligated to overdo it, either. If curtailing your intake sounds relatively easy and worthy, do it. If you do it out of panic, instead of rational choice, it won't likely stick anyway.

Thank you Oalala! I am sure I will read and reread this often, thanks again for taking the time to respond to me!
So far, this S day looks pretty similar to an N day

Starting my week three!!!
My S day over the weekend left me over full and miserable, so I intend to remember that feeling. On the 2017 thread, I read something to the effect, you don't have to take an S on the weekend, just because you can. Wish I had remembered that before that dessert. It was truly too much...lesson learned.
I am so happy I came back. THIS just makes so much sense.

Not a great week last week. Eating was ok, but I must get up off and get those 14 min done.
My goal for next week 14 min Mon-Fri and keep doing great on the three plates a day:)

If you're eating was okay, it WAS a great week. (The exercise is a separate issue.) Praise yourself lavishly for the good week! That way your brain knows what you want. If I may say so.
Hope you enjoyed your meals today!

20 days with only one red day!!!!
THIS is the best I have ever done. This time round it just feels right, simple, easy!
I am totally pumped.
Thank you OOLALA, you are my No S mentor and I appreciate YOU so much:)

Moving this here, so I can refer back to it...
, No S doesn't say you can't eliminate any foods, just that it's not habit friendly. Maybe wheat will play a smaller role as time goes on, IF your husband actually goes through with it, gets past the honeymoon, and survives the first "fight." But stay on your own foundation...

Just when I thought I was doing great, I have had the week from _ _ _ _!! And I fall off the wagon...boo...hiss.
I did ok today, no snacks, sweets or seconds, so at least I picked myself up from the depths and hey I have some red on my Habitcal...I like red, just not too much:) LOL!
I did weigh at the beginning of the week and I am maintaining my weight. I think that is ok especially since I have sworn off exercise this week:(
Fingers crossed that I can get it together better next week.

I gently say to get it together just today, our last day of the week. It may be very tempting to say, oh, it's a lost week, might as well give in to the freedom of the weekend early. Or other stuff. Believe me, the brain pattern from the fake hunger part of the brain could make just about anything outside of three meals sound perfectly reasonable. That's the pattern's job! Thankfully, it can be overridden.
Try to keep reminding yourself, I recommend in writing, what you think you can get by this lifestyle that you think you can't get if you don't live it. Hopefully, it is not just something way off in the future. A mix of now and later rewards is usually best for us regular folks, not the ones who can prepare for the Olympics for years at a time.

Oh, and it's fine line between having great feelings that you are doing well and starting to think that the struggles are all over because you have a few good days or weeks. I don't like to be a wet blanket but like true love, there is no way to really know for quite awhile that it's the real thing. That doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy the good times! It just means that some arguing and disagreeing doesn't mean the relationship won't be rich and fulfilling.

Still doing ok. The green days are feeling more and more like a habit! Yea!! I don't beat myself up when I slip, I just mark it and move on.
Today, I actually rode my bike for 40 minutes. BOY! Did that ever feel good to my joints. I must hang on to that feeling and go for the green for exercise too:) I created a Habitcal for my bike too. Love that Habitcal:)

I completed the 2017 challenge year!
I maintained my weight.
I learned that No S is what works for me.
In 2018, I am ready to commit to moving my body more and of course keep going with No S:)

I saw your update on the 2017 thread. So glad to see you again, and that you feel this is your path. I like to have a tribe to huddle with in the cold. Lord knows the wolves are out there. Given modern devices, they can sleep in shifts so it's almost never safe!
