Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.
I am starting this diet tomorrow. I understand and agree with most of what I read in the book. I have to do something because I am gaining about 5 pounds every year. I am at 180 and I am only 5'1. I haven't weighed this much since I was pregnant! I sometimes have thoughts that I will be fat forever, but I have to stop that thinking.
I have been reading the check-ins here and I feel really motivated.

Welcome! Nos is amazing. Just remember it's a slow process for most. Focus on habits and getting chaotic eating under control first. The rest will follow.
Best of luck and let us know how it goes tomorrow!
All the best Joyday.. You are in the right place, I'm a (returning) newly committed no S'er and am really focusing on habits first like Ipearlmom says which is really important, as this is for life.
Welcome and good luck.
Great! My brain doesn't let me change my S days - I have to do S-aturday and S-unday whether I'm working or resting! Do let us know how your first S days go. I love HabitCal too.
My first official S days were nice! On Friday, I just sort of snacked in the afternoon and evening. Today, I did the same. I nibbled on trail mix all afternoon. I did still eat very small meals in between.
I am sure I did not do anything to encourage weight loss, but I did have fun.
I need to be more consistent about my check-in. I also really want to make it into the 21-Day Club. I haven't done that yet.
Tomorrow is an No S day. I take my S days on Fri. and Sat. I don't have any treats planned for today. Yesterday I was craving corn chips. I bought a little bag. I haven't had those in years.
Most successful changes take several shots.
All's well.
And, to me, it's as much about the journey as about the destination.
Don't know how it strikes you JoyDay, but I do mean it, not just a pious thing to say.
