Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.
I don't own a sledgehammer and wouldn't use it if I did because I'm afraid I'd smash my apartment to smithereens. I'm also afraid of injuring myself as I have NO upperbody strength. What to do? I got my trusty floor mop which has an extendable handle and made it as short as possible. I then did 10 reps shoveling, 10 reps churning using both hands, 10 reps leg lifts with the mop on top of my foot and 10 reps wood chopping. My face was red, my heart rate elevated and I can feel it in my arms. I only did one set of 10 reps as I have to start somewhere.
So, if you are scared of using a sledgehammer, use a mop or broom.
Works for me!
As of tomorrow, I'm advancing from my mop to a real shovel. Gardening season starts in 2 months, and I want to be in shape for the hard physical work that entails.
What do I call that? Shovel shovel? I'll think of something...
