mstevens's daily checkin

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

This forum has been working great for you. Why mess with SUCCESS?

Glad your teeth are on the mend. I remember how nasty that procedure was (the anaesthesia was fantastic though, I kept on trying to chat with the oral surgeon throughout the operation).

Day 84: SUCCESS

Hmm, notification email didn't arrive, I bet my spam filtering has got overenthusiastic again.

Bit worried about the teeth - been getting more painful for the last day or so, rather than less.

Well, that's a pretty big upside. Congratulations!

Hope you like the habitcal. Let me know what you think. I've got a ton of notes for version 2 and hope to have it out before Christmas.

Today I mostly have a cold.

I'm not sure what, but I think it should do something to make it more obvious the dates on the calendar are clickable. Possibly the hand icon when you mouseover them.

Having a bit of trouble with cookies and starters lately.

I think the habitcal is a little less motivating, because one red square is less scary than having to restart your count...

I'm still around! Just using habitcal more these days.

I claim exemption from the diet yesterday because I was on a (happily pointless) trip to A&E.

(Hmm, not sure that translates for americans, but not sure what the american is...)

Day 22, 23: SUCCESS

Tried the scales this morning, a few kg lighter, although still within the day to day variation so it doesn't prove anything.

Thanks.

Day 24, 25: SUCCESS.

I'm not counting my chickens, it's still well within the variation I'd expect weighing myself from day to day.

Off to have Japanese food tonight, which I suspect will come on many tiny plates.

Will attempt to find a dish that comes as one dish, or work on my virtual plating skills.
