Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.
During the past 7 months or so,
I've been successful at establishing a 15 minute weekday Shovelglove Habit with a 4 lb Sledgehammer.
I am a small, light, non-athletic female who is in the youth of old age (64) so this was the right weight for me.
Yesterday was my first day with a 6 lb Sledgehammer.
It was harder, but not too bad.
I expect to feel a bit sore for the first few weeks, similiar to how I felt when beginning the 4 lb Sledgehammer.
This is the only Strength Training I've been able to enjoy and sustain in my lifetime,
and I'm feeling pleased with myself.
That's great Bright Angel!
I tried a six pound hammer the other day and thought it was quite a nice and hefty weight, contrary to what I had imagined it would be.
I would have got it for myself, for quick moves, but the handle felt too short for me.
Congrats! Debs
