Another ancient reference

Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

Or as Reinhard said, "proto-shovelglove" :-)

This is a 1887 manual for Indian Club exercises - at the very bottom it lists some exercises for a "heavy club used with two hands":

Remarkable. These are just like the hindu pushups and squats that Matt Furey suggests. Faster than I thought, though!
