Happy new year, loyal board members!

Post by reinhard »

My resolution this year is to get this bulletin board into better shape, so new members can join without the hassle of me personally having to approve them from a flood of spam join requests, and we can preserve and learn from the many historical posts that are still here.

It may involve some downtime, and I may need some help from guest moderators, and it may totally fail and end in catastrophe, but I think the time has finally come to give this a try.

Apologies in advance for any downtime! And thanks in advance for any offers of help!

Happy new year to you too.

Happy to help if I can. I don't mind clearing posts too if that helps you.

Great that you are looking at this. It would be good to have more new members.

We've already communicated on Facebook. I still consider this more useful, but not all agree. I love that we have topics, though people don't always use them well. I guess they are so used to just popping on FB and asking or commenting without even seeing if the idea has already been examined. But what are you gonna do? have both.

Update: I've been speaking with a friend who has current professional knowledge of how to do this sort of thing (he's in "devops") and a plan is emerging... more soon!

Hello Reinhard,
I am so glad, can't wait to see the new website; haven't been contributing lately, but lurking happily
(Hope to chime in more in the weeks to come)

I usually only hang out on the check-in page so I missed this. Sounds like exciting developments in the works!

Glad you think so! We had two coffees together about it already to plan. Next week we might start breaking stuff...

"Save the bulletin board" status update: this is a small step, but we just got https working on all 4 everyday systems sites instead of just everydaysystems.com (something that's been nagging me for years).

So now nosdiet.com, shovelglove.com and urbanranger.com all use https. There's no practical security advantage since there are no logins or anything remotely sensitive happening on those sites, but I think it may help with the search engines liking them better, and it feels good to have made some slight progress in this technical rejuvenation project.

More soonish...

Progress update: the new everyday systems "droplet" has been spun up... this way we can get everything working without operating on a live patient. I'll post here as we get each component transferred and upgraded.

Hi Rheinhard, Thank you for investing even more of your time and energy in this site. I have just barely joined but am finding so much value in this community and would truly hate to lose it. Selfishly, I am very grateful that you are working to not only keep it going but to improve it (not that it needs it - it is wonderful as-is but hopefully you know what I mean). Thank you for everything! WINhappy
