Simpless's check-in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Mon, Tues, Wed - Success

Somehow I think No S is helping me through this time. I had to put my sweet dog to sleep yesterday. Her pain in her back and neck had increased and she'd just suffered too much. It wasn't fair to keep her here, but the sadness is overwhelming.

Oh no Simpless! I am so sorry. It is best not to let your poor pup suffer but I know how hard it is. Thinking of you.

Thank you, eschano, auto, and samosaurus for your comforting words.

Following No S this week hasn't been hard, I guess because I haven't felt like eating much.

Thank you, Strawberry.

That saying must be true. I'm still very emotional so trying not to dwell on it too much. My other dog is depressed without her here, so I just took him for a walk (good for me too). Having the NoS structure in my life is helping me not turn to food. I did go off a little yesterday though, eating some peanuts. I bought them for my husband, didn't have my glasses with me and got unsalted. Now they're mine, but I'll save the rest for the weekend.

Fri 5/23 - Success
S-days - ok
Tues -Success
Weds - Failure - snacked on some peanuts
Thurs - Failure - handful of popcorn I made for my grandson, sent the rest home with him
I think my NoS habits were in me enough to keep me from going off too much this past week. But I have a long way to go, and know I still need to come here daily for support, and hopefully give some too :)

Friday - Success

I like that NoS is becoming a little easier most of the time. It really simplifies my life after over 40 years of dieting - I wish I had realized this when I was younger. I didn't have Reinhard's book back then, but even if I did, I probably wouldn't have been willing to go the NoS way.
I still try to figure out how much weight I can lose by a certain date or month. This can be a little discouraging with my slower rate of loss (3 lbs. a month) so then I have to remind myself that even though its slow, I've been keeping it off so far :) I never could maintain fast weight loss.

3 pounds a month sounds fast to me! :) I have been losing 1-2 month (or none, if it's a plateau) for 8 or 9 months. :)

Thanks Auto ! :) We're losing anyway and that's our goal, right? and habit of course  . I'd like to lose another 35 or so and that's to get to a healthy weight, not my high school weight. Sooo, I'll be around here for a while, and with NoS permanently I hope.

Monday - S day with family.
That's two 3-S day weekends in a row. Kind of challenging but not as crazy as in the beginning. Weekly habits are starting to flow into the weekends more. Its good to be back to Ndays :)

Wednesday - Failure

Had a cheese stick between breakfast and lunch because I didn't have any milk and was feeling kind of weak. Then in the evening I was dizzy - think it was sinus problems - and had a half of a yogurt and a few tortilla chips. At least I didn't go for the cake. :)

Friday - Success, except I piled my plate a little too high at dinner and was too full. I find I feel better if I have more salads and vegetables but didn't yesterday. Still learning

Today, had that piece of cake I've been saving for the weekend :D

Weekend S days went ok except I think I may have consumed more sodium than usual and the scale showed a gain this morning. I knew I shouldn't have weighed myself on a Monday.

Monday - Failure. I had some dental work this morning and really didn't feel well afterwards. I had a baked potato with cheese for lunch. Later, without thinking, I started grazing on some food before it was on the dinner table. Amazing how those old habits come back :?

Tuesday - Failure. Not too bad, but ate a few (cold!) fries my grandson left from his lunch. I really could have had some with my lunch but didn't. They would have tasted better too.

Wednesday - Failure. Ate dinner alone - a salad with vegetables and broccoli slaw. Forgot to put the crumbled bacon I had planned to put on it, so ate that a little later, sharing some with my dog.
Also had some "Reduced Guilt" tortilla chips before bed. :?

Today is a new day :)

Today is my last weekday of vacation. Attempted to stay on N day habits, but not able to as much as I wished. Chips are my biggest weakness! Anyway, I don't think I did too much damage, and got some needed rest. :)

Well, I'm still here but haven't been doing too well with no s habits. I'd like to blame not having Internet at home a little, because so much of my inspiration came from this forum! For some reason my reception has been better on my Ipad right now so I'm here :)
I stayed on habit only one day so far this week, but when I was off it wasn't horrible. I didn't have seconds, but a couple sweet items and a couple healthy snacks. Like just now I ate some fresh cherries. I don't want to let NoS slip away because it is the most sensible easy diet I've ever tried, even though the results are not as fast as I would like, but they are there..plus I know I would feel terrible if I gained what I lost since March. I can see that happening if I keep letting those "S"es sneak in.
Maybe it's time to listen to some podcasts  Hope to have Internet soon.. Wishing you all a nice holiday weekend!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I haven't posted for more than 2 weeks and was surprised to see I have maintained my loss from March. Something must have sunk in! But .... I have not lost any more so I need to be here and read all the encouraging posts. Also, my husband has to cut back on sugar for health reasons so I want to eat healthy and stay on track for him. Still don't have Internet here (I know that must sound crazy) so will have to post from iPad or my office for now. :)

I agree with the posting accountability. I slipped badly earlier this year and went in and out on visiting this site. I am now doing well, and I visit the site almost daily although I do not post every day.

Most of my failures happen in the evening. Not big binging, but still some snacking. Fridays are the toughest because it's so easy to be in "weekend mode". I try brushing my teeth after dinner but that doesn't always work especially when my husband is eating pretzels next to me. How do you all do it?

Fridays are the hardest for me, too! My husband almost always gets dessert when we go out for dinner, but I just tell myself that a bite of it just isn't allowed and I'll have whatever I want tomorrow. A lot of times this works, sometimes it doesn't. When it works, that's one more day of success I have than without NoS, when it doesn't, I just try to stick to one bite and get back on NoS immediately (which the S Days the next day are always helpful with that :P )

Have you tried distracting yourself with other things while your husband is snacking? I'll read or do my cross stitch or something to keep me entertained, so I don't eat out of boredom.
