Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.
Hi all! This is my first post, first checkin. I started NoS on Tuesday of this week, so today is my 3rd day.

It has been interesting to me that my problem is not seconds (I am full after my plate), but snacks and sweets are difficult! I have to be mindful not to pick something up and shove it in my mouth.
I started my exercise today. 30 minutes on the treadmill while watching old I Love Lucy episode.
I started on the 6th at 183.4 lbs. I want to weigh only once a month, but know that I will probably give in and weigh once a week for a while.

Welcome! I generally weigh once a month but occasionally get on at other times. If I do get on the scale in between my monthly weigh ins, I do not write it down. I tend to forget it and concentrate on the monthly weight if I only record it monthly.
Good luck!
The journey is the reward.
Maintenance is progress.
As background info, I lost 70 lbs. before this over the last 18 months by the doctor regulating my thyroid meds. I stalled out at about 180-185 lbs. Have been there for 3 months, so decided I need a boost. Here I am!
I have Hashimoto's (thyroid stuff), fibromyalgia, and severe chemical sensitivities. I also lack one of the liver enzymes that helps clear toxins. Bummer, huh? But we deal with the hand we are dealt!
Okay, off to do today's treadmill.

Welcome! First, congrats on the weight loss! You've done so well!!!
Second, have you read the book yet? I recommend it to everyone who starts here...I think I've read it about 5 times & get something new out of it everytime I pick it up!
So nice to have you here...stop by often!

Thanks for the welcome! I bought the book when it first came out, but I guess I wasn't ready for it. I did a slew of low-carb diets, but found they weren't sustainable. Big surprise, huh?
Now I am ready, and have really enjoyed the first few days on NoS. I have hunger pangs between meals, but they are already lessening as my body figures out it can wait until the next meal. I used to 'self medicate' by snacking. A LOT of snacking.
Today is my first S day, and I am trying to figure out what I really want. During the week I kept thinking of goodies that I HAD to have, but now that S day is here I can't think of anything screaming for me. Maybe I will make some zucchini bread with walnuts. I do love to bake!
Take care!

Well, I did my weekend S days. I drank lots of soda, snacked, and had ice cream and zucchini bread.
I couldn't wait to get back to NoS days! The zucchini bread and the first soda were great. The other stuff was 'eh'. Even the Cherry Garcia ice cream was not as great as it should have been.
Live and learn!

I've had that before too......all week I really want a taste of this or that and then the time comes when I can, and nothing seems worthy. (Of course, I get over it and chow down anyway. )
I weighed myself today. Down 1.2 lbs. Yay! I had expected to gain after my 'Drink All the Soda in Arizona' S days this weekend!

Yay! Yesterday was Day 21 on plan. All green, no red! And I have lost 3.4 lbs. That is amazing for me, because I am one of the 4% that has physical reasons for not losing weight. Yay me!
I wasn't certain I would lose this week, as we went out to dinner with friends Sunday night and I ate 5 fajitas. Then I thought, 'wait a minute, they were small, and the stuffing was lean meat and lots of vegies. And they all fit on 1 plate!' I had my lemon water to drink, no chips, and no dessert. That would have been okay for an N day, much less an S day!
I am up to 40 minutes a day on the treadmill. I will be adding 5 more minutes each week until I am up to an hour.
Oh, and today my sister and I went to the big local Goodwill. My jeans are falling off. They are an 18. I got 2 pair of 16s for $2 each, and a pair of 14s for $4. Yay! the 14s are not as comfortable as the 16s, but they zip up and I can sit down without splitting myself. Yay!

Well, I've been on NoS for 5 weeks yesterday, and have lost 5 lbs. I can't believe it!
I am post-menopausal, 56 years old, with severe thyroid problems, and a bunch of other stuff that makes it hard for me to lose. And yet, I am losing!
I was especially surprised this week because my weekend was a little more crazy than I like. I made a chocolate cake with fudge frosting and ate 2 big pieces. Not as glorious as I would have liked it to be, but good. My hubby doesn't do sweets, so I washed the rest down the garbage disposal. I normally would have given it away, but we weren't going to see anyone for a few days. Next week I want to plan my treats more carefully.
Anyway, I am pleased as punch!
Oh, and I am up to 50 minutes on the treadmill!
