Thanks everyone.
Reinhard, in response to your advice "As effective as the doggy bag is in principle, it's probably better to find "intelligent default" restaurants with smaller portions so you don't have to constantly fight this." ---
My husband married young and was divorced for many years ...

What Do You Do In Restaurants?
Technically, I suppose restaurant meals are 'legal' for No S because they do fit on one (mammoth size) plate!
I'm thinking I'll eat what would fit on a normal size plate (or less) and take the rest home if it's something that would still be nice the next day (or leave it if it wouldn't be).

Good for him!
This article really made me think - alcoholism runs in both sides of my family among the men. They either don't drink at all because they know they can't stop once they start, or they drink much more than is healthy. Like John Goodman, they are not what we'd 'expect' alcoholics to be ...

talk at ya, I really envy people who can go with the flow like you. Both my husband and I get shaky and cranky if our meal schedule is delayed by more than a few minutes day-to-day - neither of us is diabetic, and I tried low carb once and felt sick as a dog the whole time so I think my problem is ...

I very seldom drink soda - if I'm going to take in 150 calories of sugar I'd rather do it in the form of a donut!
I can't drink diet soda - I'm one of those who gets headaches from aspartame, even the amount in chewing gum, and drinks sweetened with Splenda are rare here (usually in flavours that ...

I have tried low carb (along with every other diet I've ever heard of) and my experience was a lot like ShannahR's - plus I had a headache and felt nauseous the whole time (a few weeks) and only lost around 3 pounds. I've heard the brain prefers to run on sugar (or at least carbs) so that probably ...

I'm new to No S and after reading this I just actually checked my calendar to be sure my birthday, anniversary, etc. weren't on Saturday or Sunday - they aren't, whew!
I'm worried I'll be one of the 'cousin's hamster's birthday' kind of followers, so I've decided I'll only allow two S days a month ...
