Nice catch, ou812....but the sad part is that your are all too right on this!
I have to admit, last night - shoveled (even my 7 yr old came out to help...."Mom said this is a good workout, Dad"...at 7  )
This morning, started to shovel (again...big driveway). Snow was VERY HEAVY ...

Why did I stop?!?!?!
Lunacy.....I guess.....
I stopped shovelgloving for a few months.... went back to strict bodyweight and some yoga....and then the snow hit and last weekend spent Sat and Sun. (yes, I know 'S' days...but this was real world shoveling and chopping) two days..having to chop away 2-3" of ice on my whole ...

Shovelglove moves as in this Mace swinging video
Haven't been around here for a LONG time, but visit now and then.
As the weather gets cooler, the 'ol 16lb'r is going to become an early morning, outdoor playtoy a couple of times a week agian.
Came across this video on YouTube.

I found another source for this article.
Apparently, he used the sledgehammer to 'hit a tire', a lot like some other sledgehammer enthusiasts perform on other sites.
He would do 100 strikes, and some sprints with the time.
Then he would do 20 strikes, run a sprint....do 20 strikes, run a spint...etc ...

Rowing movements
Found a copy of Field and Stream that put them into 'categories':
J -stroke: This is the stnd. one where you move the paddle (sledge  ) one either side of your body, front to back.
Pry stroke: hold paddle on side by hip and push 'outward', away from your hip with bottom hand (by sledge head ...

I like the 'slapshot' idea and I'll put it in tonight.
How about 'rowing' moves? I added this last week and when I did my 6lb. 'faster workout last evening, I used the 6 lb'r and did it as a single arm movement with the rowing and held the arm only slightly bent, not really bent at the elbow. Using ...

Change of pace
Since starting a bout 3 weeks ago, I went from 12 to a 16 and have really good, solid workouts.
Last night, I did a full, very 'fast' and quick solid 15 min. workout with a
6 lb sledge.
WOW...do I feel it today.
Especially in my hips and back of my shoulders. By feeling it...I mean, I feel great ...

I agree wholeheartedly.....seriously, it's an old cliche', but it rings true.....The First Step is the Hardest....

Also, the crowbar is pretty consistent in the overall distribution of weight. A lot of the 'magic' and influence of the sledge on the workout and performance is based on the non-concentric weight distribution. It forces your body to adjust to that and that's a great portion of the benefits of the ...

I would have to agree that 'catching' the movement, I believe has certain advantages in muscular energy almost becoming a 'moving isometric'....I know, a dycodomy of terms there, but at least that's how it feels to me.
To 'absorb' the movement rather than transferiong it's energy....really takes a ...

For one handed, what you may want to consider is just investnig in a plain handle. You can get these at Home Depot. Establish a routine or movements that you'd want to concentrate the one handed movments in and perfet them with the handle. Then, if you want more resistance, start with just tying the ...

New move?
OK...there' nothing new under the sun, but , at least for me, I came up with another new move working out this morning.
I imagined an overhead beam, with a huge peg/spke that needed to be driven in.
So holding the sledge as if it were being held in a wood chop, but with the head up in the air, I ...

Just found this site about 2 weeks ago.
I used to do some levering excercises and some sledge against a tire for a workout.
This is great!
I 've done 4 solid workouts between last week and the weekend.
