You can also build the heavier weight in gradually - ie start the first 5 minutes with the heavier weight or end the workout with the heavier weight and gradually increase the time. Or do one workout the first week with the heavier weight , then a couple of workouts the next week etc. Lots of ways ...

Be carefull with zip ties. over time they have a tendency to weaken where they lock together especially if under tension as they would be as yu flig the weight down and stop it. i would checkthe zip ties every couple of weeks and likely replace they every month or so. Check where the zip tie feeds ...

You can do some moves with a heavy bar that are difficult to do with a sledge. As i noted in some other thread, I use an old barbell bar cut down to about 4 feet in a kayaking motion. i stand with feet farily wide apart and semi lunge from sie to side as I kayak. if yu go fast it can wind you awfull ...

I have used a bar in the past although I have never loaded it with plates. I do use a 4 foot bar that weighs about 16 pounds. I use it in a kayaking motion. I semi lunge from side to side as I kayak through the Bering sea looking for seals to ... Depending on how fast and deep you kayak this can ...

I posted on another thread about trying to use adjustable ankle weights to increase the weight of your hammer but then tried it myself and discovered you needed a ton of duct tape to even come close to making it safe.

What you could try is to buy the adjustable ankle weights. Look for the ones that are made of very heavy nylon fabric and have a flat area with 5 sleeves in them. In each sleeve is a one lb lead weight which is removable so you can adjust of course from 1 to 5 lbs. The flat area wraps around your ...

One more quick comment if I may, to the OP. You really may have started out with too light a sledge but as per Reinhard I would give it a month or so before you move up. You may want to move up 2 levels when you do. ie if you are using a 8 lber skip the 10 pounder and go to a 12 lber. Start out very ...

This means your body has adapted to the new work load. This is common when you first begin to exercise. You can now do one of 4 things to increase your work load
1) increase your weight - not recommended so soon.
2) increase your range of motion - this can be done by actually increasing the arc of ...

Inspired by a section in the 1970's HeavyHands book by Len Swartz where he described using a weighted shovel to exercise, I found a snow shovel handle with a tapered end where the shovel balde used to be. I put a ten lb weight on, then drilled a small hole below and above the weight and put a small ...
