I'm with you! I have spent a life time on and off of diets and on and off of scales and I am still over weight. I am not afraid of the scale! On the contrary I usually know what it is going to say before I step on it. Once that has been reinforced I have justification to give up. It's ...
You are already successful! If the next time you step on the scale it does not register a number you are happy with try to remember how long it took you to put the weight on! My guess....years.
I am trying to measure "success" in ways other than the scale. To my surprise I have found quite ...
The truth about salt is that the average american gets 75% of their salt intake right in their own home...not from eating out. This is according to the American Heart Association. Add eating out and the amount of salt you are consuming takes on a whole new life.
The point was made to "reduce" salt not eliminate it. While there is a raging contoversy regarding salt reduction in the medical communicaty most agree that salt can affect hypertension (the silent killer). Hypertension is a well documented "risk factor" for cardiovascular events ie ...
I am that way with bread! It took a couple of weeks but I have really reduced the amount of bread I eat. However, if I feel like I really need a hunk of bread I go for it ... in moderation. Maybe you should try reducing the amount of cheese you eat at each meal or skip having it at one meal ...
Glad you get it! It was not easy walking away from the scale at first. I was so programmed to believe that my weight or what size I wore was the "real" measure of good or bad health. Not even close!
I have high blood pressure and most medical books or diet books will tell you I have ...
Or you can try on a piece of clothing you already own. If it fits better chances are you have lost weight!
I can throw my jeans in the dryer now and they fit. I can hook my bra on the third hook instead of the second without cutting off blood supply. I can tuck in a t-shirt that I used to leave out ...
It's been more than a month since I tossed my scale. I do weigh in once a month (at my doctors office).
In the past I think I may have used the scale or at least the results as a way to talk myself out of dieting. Didn't lose or didn't lose enough...must not be working. WHy bother?
I have to change yesterdays dinner ... we had pizza. I had two small squares and some cauliflower (no seconds). This was a hugh step for me. Usually I would eat half a pizza by myself. This time I just stopped.
B - 1 Orange and small buttered bagel @ 8:00 EST L - Shrimp w/cocktail sauce and med ...
I know what you mean about crashes. Now that I am eating three balanced meals a day I never hit the 2:00 wall at work. I am full of energy all day and am sleeping much better.
When I quit smoking (21 years ago) I just stopped. I smoked almost two packs a day and my 5 year old son was driving me nuts. However, it took me 5 years to believe that I would never smoke again.
So...yes it takes a longer than 30 days to have a "habit" become a way of life. It's ...
Couldn't agree with all of you more! Eating three meals a day and limiting the amount of food I eat has been the best thing I have ever done for myself.
Please do not take this the wrong way but unless you are six months old 107lbs is not overweight...at least not by very much! My mother is barely 5 feet tall and looks great at 110 lbs!
I started this just about 30 days ago. I have 100 lbs or more to lose.
Hot Fudge Sunday with home made whipped cream, chopped nuts and a cherry. Once a month my son goes over to Sweet Tooth (which had the nerve to move even closer to my house) and buys me one. It is about the only sweet I need to have once in awhile. Now if the bakery gets any closer I am in deep dodo ...
I am happy this works for you but still way too much for me.
The reason I was so attracted to the No S Diet is because I believe I have failed at every other diet. Diets that encourage me to limit or eliminate certain foods, count and log, weigh in, measure, eat, don't eat.....etc ...
You know it takes a lot of people to make those stars look good! I have a friend who lives in Hollywood and laughs about "bumping" into stars without hair and makeup. Most of the time she does not even know who they are.
The beauty of all of us is that we are all different. Who would want a world ...
Think of binging as putting too much gas into your car and watching it over flow onto the road. At the price of gas these days it should make you stop!
I eat multigrain CHerrios with 1/2 banana and 3 or 4 strawberries. I use whole milk on cereal because it fills you up faster. MGC has 6 g of sugar so I don't think it is a "sweet".
As I got off of the bus this morning I realized I left my keys at home. Since I am the first one in the office my more than an hour I decided to check out the little Greek cafe for breakfast.
We have a lot of Greek diners and cafes and they excel at breakfast :!:
So sorry to hear about your grandfather! Times like this we have to give ourselves a break.
Are you eating enough at each meal?
Try to include some of the foods you are craving into your meals. For instance have a small side of popcorn with a sandwich and a piece of fruit for lunch ...
I think I could handle a once a month weigh in! My doctor suggested I stop by the office the first of every month so that I am using the same professional scale. She really likes this new way of thinking about eating and food.
I gave up my scale 3 weeks ago but that did not stop my doctor from weighing me this morning. Blood pressure is good (I'm still on medication) and I lost 6 pounds (today is my 30th day of No Sing).
My Doctor is a wonderful lady from China...very quiet and very polite. Since she put me on blood ...
My dentist once told me I had to floss more. He said if you do something for 30 days it will become a habit. That was probably 10 years ago and to this day I cannot leave the house w/o flossing.
Well tomorrow will be 30 days of Nosing for me :D
I have to stop at my doctors office for a blood ...
My Gram was never overweight and had the same sensible way about her. To her way of thinking if you needed to lose weight then you needed to eat less. She was also very big on sweeping and raking. Said it was good for the heart. She lived to me 89! I miss her!
As you all know I threw my scale away (about 3 weeks ago) and I feel like I got rid of a bad X husband. You know glad to be rid of him but still have some feelings.
"For me" the scale was in charge. It got to the point where I started to "project" what I thought I should have lost. If it ...
Gaining weight sucks especially when you think you have finally found a way to lose weight without too much effort. I felt frustrated AND I felt like my clothes were getting tighter (check out "who's kidding who").
For me...I was piling the food onto the plate. You know you can fit 3 bacon ...
I had my first Green Monday since I started. So it looks like a broke another bad habit and replaced it with a good one.
After my frustration last week I made a little deal with myself. If I was going to load food onto my plate I was going to have to begin with fruits, then veggies, then protein ...
No way I could weigh myself everyday! While the scale may not be a judge it sure reinforces alot of bad images we have about ourselves.
If we are honest with ourselves our bodies will tell us everything we need to know. Do we have energy? Do our pants cut into our sides when we sit? Does you bra ...
I finally had to face facts with my mom and we are now looking for assisted living for her. I found a great place which she can afford but it's not easy. Eating right under stress (especially emotional stress) is really really hard. At least you have made the first hurdle by knowing why you reacted ...
Buffalo Gal here. Last week I felt and reacted the same way. God knows why...but I think it's easier for us to believe we've tried and failed again. What makes this different is you saw what was happening and put the brakes on. Unlike other "diets" getting back to plan is not this huge ...
I really threw it away! It was too much of a temptation to weigh in. I know that weighing in does not work and I am such a creature of habit that I wanted to weigh in anyway. So...I got rid of the temptation!
Now I depend on the way my clothes feel and what my body is saying.
Yesterday I was feeling alittle frustrated cause I was not seeing results but now that I think about it:
I am sleeping better. My stomach feels flatter. I do not hit the 2:00 wall at work. I am not out of breath on the way to the bus stop. I do not have that "Over Stuffed" feeling after meals ...
Don't kill me but I could take or leave the dessert! Just try to take my potato or bread and butter away....it may get ugly! Anyway you did a great job
You are all so right and thanks again for the support! Usually this is where I would convince myself I cannot do this...it's too great of a challenge! So last night I went back to the book and refreshed my memory. This IS a simple and effective plan for a life long solution to bad eating habits. In ...
Day 18 and I had to look into the mirror and ask myself "who's kidding who?'.
I have alot of green on my Habitcal (except Mondays) but I don't feel successful. As a matter of fact I started to feel like I've found yet another way to fail at a diet.
I have this problem with my son. He'll walk over to the Sweet Tooth and bring me back a hot fudge sunday (with whipped cream and nuts). The first time he did this I thanked him and ate it. Not anymore! He is 25 and will have to learn that I am not eating sweets M-F. Actually...I have never had ...
It has become a mind game where old stubborn values are trying to scare away the new. I was not even hungery!!!!! I just talked myself into going to the kitchen and wrapping a piece of ham around a piece of cheese....twice!
AND it's only on Monday nights I that I do this ...
Hang in there and give yourself a break! None of us got overweight in 8 days. Take one small step and make one small change each day. Before you know it you will be running.
I not only got rid of all of the books, videos and DVDS but I threw away my scale and took my car off of the road (until winter).
I just discovered that my treadmill has a purpose other than gathering dust! My Jack Russell "Ernie" uses it to pee on when he's mad at me. Anybody interested in a ...
So I have just started week three and I have two red check marks on my Habitcal. Both of them are Mondays! I can go all day long doing what I am supposed to be doing and then I blow it Monday night. Any ideas how to break this little mind game I am playing with myself? I do not want this to become a ...
Great job but watch out for that scale! I threw mine away this weekend. I measure my success by the way my clothes are feeling and the amount of energy I have.
I'm going to purchase a divided plate for dinner. I think it will help me control the potato/french frie/rice portion. You would not believe how many fries you can pile onto eachother before they fall over. Mashed potatoes too
Like I said I am throwing the scale away today (now if I could dispose of my head that easily)!
Hang in there guys!
This is the most sensible plan I have ever had the good luck to find. When I read the book I felt like it was written just for me. It answered all of my questions and put to rest ...
I don't feel so bad now that I know I am not the only one who knew about the breathing...posing thing. I am still not sure what to call it or how it ever made it's way onto TV.
We are all Reinhard's Rebels. I am on day 12 and responded to another Rebel who said she felt like she had just joined an army. So I decided to call us Reinhard's Rebels (hope he doesn't mind). Anyway...welcome!
Wow! Had no idea this would take off! I do feel like a rebel too. Every diet I have ever been on made me feel bad about myself. So bad I would eventually start eating (more than I did before I was on a diet). Now...I just fix three meals a day. I'm struggling with the scale (old habits die hard) but ...
I have blue dishes! I am going to try using them tonight. My portions are still a bit large. Hey! Maybe the Rebels should wear blue. Somebody with imagination should come up with a motto for the Rebels.
Great day ... sun is shinning and I get to check off another green box. I still cannot believe how fast my cravings went away! I joined the Urban Rangers last week (put my car up until winter) and love walking. Really need to get a good pair of walking shoes. I even got one of my co workers to walk ...
I worry about S days a little and I think how we use them will be very different for each of us. For me S days are "Special" but not more special than me! I'll eat that Hot Fudge Sunday but I won't top it off with a pizza
Does anyone remember the woman on TV who said you could lose weight by posing and breathing correclty? I tried it...it did't work but my son got a good laugh watching me pose like a cat
I always hated that I would go shopping and spend a ton of money on food I was not going to eat let along my family. I prayed a long time for an answer so yes it is spiritual! I can prepare meals that everyone likes and not have to feel left out or deprived. What's even better...my cravings have ...
Ok so I caught the tail end of the Biggest Loser last night...there is no way I could do that for the rest of my life. This I can do forever Today is day nine (both Mondays have been red days for me) and I have no cravings
Pre made meals...great idea and simple! I'll try that next week. Hey by the way my whole family is from Maine; Bangor, Houlton, Bath! Some of us migrated to NY but it's always nice to hear from another Mainiac!
I have decided to take my car off of the road and become an Urban Ranger for at least spring/summer/fall. I am not so sure about winter...I live in the North East! Anyway! I am at the end of week one and cannot believe how sore I was the first couple of days. I feel better now but need some advise ...
I have just finished week one and I cannot believe how simple and rewarding this is. I too tried WW and it worked until I got bored ot frustrated with it. This is something I can do for the rest of my life.
OK! So week one is over and I made it through my first weekend...not with fyling colors but not a complete wash out. I gotta find a way to deal with stress other than fatty/salty food. I did not snack/eat sugar or have seconds but the food I did eat was not healthy and I don't think a platter is ...
