My very unscientific opinion is that pizza, and so many other fatty and carbie foods just plain taste good!!! It's pleasureable to taste something yummy. A plain, dry pizza crust would get the same "opiod" high, but we want our taste buds to dance so have it with tasty toppings which inviariably are ...

Well, chocolate covered raisins exist in the civilized world. Remember bridge mix? I just had to send an email to the California Prune Board because I left a pot of prunes on the stove all day and DO NOT want to die from food poisoning transmitted from prunes. It would be the final humiliation. I ...

Deb, All our jokes about prunes, and I have actually found that I love them cooked and over cottage cheese or yogurt. In my dieting days, this would have been a forced meal, but I find I actually like it....kinda sweet and sour...a metaphor for life!

Like Dru, I also had the same problem with waiting between meals. I had so bought into the snack all day school of thought, and gotten USED to it, that it was a tough habit to break. And it was a habit.
The problem I always had with those "non diet" approaches where you listen to your body, is my ...

Hey, Dru, give yourself a break. Moving IS exercise. In days before all our modern conveniences, exercise wasn't something people had to "get", it was built into their daily lives. And that's what you're doing now. So, don't say you aren't getting exercise....you ARE, but it's coming to you instead ...

One more note about McDonald's before I become an inadvertent spokesperson, which is definitely not my goal in life! Years ago...before lawsuits and Supersize Me, McDonalds did have a couple healthy choices on their menu....one was a veggie burger and the other was a low fat burger, and sales were ...

Good point, Deb. I think I'll stage a protest!
And while I'm here, I don't think intelligence has a thing to do with being thin.
Some of the biggest air heads on the planet are thin. It's absolutely a mixed bag of inside and outside influences, impulse control, too easy access. If you had to hunt ...

I don't know what McDonalds is like outside of California, but out here, they have several choices that aren't half bad. They have a grilled chicken sandwhich and you can leave off anything you don't want on it, and several salads which are quite healthy with low fat Newman's Dressing. So, even at a ...

This thread reminds me of words, I believe, from the Talmud (Deb, you're the religious scholar here, help me out!), "We don't see things as they are, we see them as WE are." And that is so true in life, in eating plans, in everything. We wear our own special rose or otherwise colored glasses and ...

Dru, I came here in a rather round about way. First I googled naturally thin and came upon NT, a non diet board that I worked for awhile, but it was lacking for me in several areas.
From there I heard about a TTapp board....an exercise board, but it had a nutrition thread, and there was one about ...

Yes, CarrieAnn, as Dru duly noted, I am a cake afficionado. But guess what? Since doing NoS I can have one piece and be perfectly satisfied. It definitely helps to have it as dessert when I am already almost full. It's a lot harder to do this if my hunger meter is on 0 when I have my piece of heaven ...

Miss Louann, I've got 5 years on you, and I joined up here to basically maintain. And ended up losing 5 lbs. If I can maintain this weight without going up and down and all over the place, I will have succeeded in my mission. And so far....so good. My goal is to have ONE size in my closet for now ...

Yes, Dru, let me tell you about ageing and changing bodies. Bah, humbug!!!
But the one upside is that you tend to look better as you age with a little more meat on your bones. In my younger years, I looked good with 5 or 10 pounds less on me, but today I look haggard and sickly if I drop to those ...
