I agree. As a college athlete and long time exerciser, excessive exercise just increases the appetite and also gives one the feeling that they can eat more since they just worked out. I read something that 60 min. of high level aerobic exercise burns ~450 cals. That's the equivalent of a few cookies ...

It has been a while, but I wanted to update my routine:
Three days per week, some rep variation of the below exercises, with the reps I used this morning. This took me 14:35 to complete. If I can get this time down to 14 minutes, I'll go through again with 7 reps. If I can do 21-14-7 with both arms ...

Superslow
I tried it too and agree with what Reinhard wrote. One other point, it's virtually impossible to get the results they advertise without having a workout partner pushing you beyond the point of exhaustion. If you workout alone, you'll stop well short of this point because it is extremely painful ...

I agree. I like to keep my workouts to 20 min., or less. The way I see it is if I can increase the amount of work I do in this time period, I must be stronger and better conditioned. I've worked out consistently since high school, rowed crew in college and have tried to stay in shape, but exercise ...

New Routine
Thanks for the kind words. I'm no animal, just someone who enjoys exercising regularly. I really like Shugging, but five days/week is too much for me so breaking it up with something like burpees seems to be working. Regardless of exercise, diet control is still the key.

New Routine
I have been interested in picking up a shovel glove and using this as an exercise, but always seem to do something else. Four weeks ago I started a M, W, F shovel glove and Tu, Thu Burpee routine. My shovel glove routine is:
25 reps drive fence posts
25 reps churn butter
25 reps shovel
21 reps ...

This runs counter to conventional wisdom, but exercise is a horrible form of weight control. I'm not saying exercise isn't good- it is! It's great for your heart, lungs, mental well being, etc., but simply is not very good for weight control because the amount of calories you burn are fairly low.

Interesting article. This is what Clarence Bass has done for decades and he looks fantastic at ~70 years old. His site has very good eating (I hate the word dietary) information that really conforms with much of what Reinhard has written.

Food Choices
I read this message board a couple of times per week, but don't post much. One comment I read over and over is how much "fat" certain food items have. Reinhard mentions in his book (and essay) how different foods and food groups go in and out of style being bad for us (e.g., fat, cards, hydrogenated ...

Sounds to me like you've developed some pretty good habits. You don't snack between meals, you eat single plate servings with improved food quality and you lost weight. If your only weakness is after dinner snacking, and you're aware of this, then it most likely a matter of time before you'll be ...

Macronutrients
Reinhard,
Do you consciously eat your meals with macronutrients in mind? In other words, do you guesstimate the number of grams of protein (for example) you want to eat each day, or do you simply eat one plate of food and call it a meal? The reason I ask is because we're innundated with how many ...

I'll add my $0.02 on the potty training...we have six and the single best method for us was to remove their diapers when they were around 2.5 years old and getting them to the potty when it looked like they needed to go. Obviously, you'll be cleaning up, but within three days they were potty trained ...

No-S for me is simply eating three meals each day with the understanding each meal needs be substantial enough to get me to the next meal, without exceeding one plate of food. The problem today is people are so spun up over protein, carbs, fat, glycemic index, etc., that meals become like fillups at ...

I agree with Reinhard on this. My appetite between meals isn't really an issue any longer. It's probably a combination of better meals and not training my body to expect a between meal snack. We've been brainwashed for so long that if we don't eat something every 2-3 hours, our bodies may waste away ...

I think this will become less of a problem as you're time on NoS continues. What I mean by this, using me as an example of one, is the more time you spend not eating sweets and snacks, the less you will crave them. I've been doing this successfully (no failures) since right before Thanksgiving and ...

I stay with the two drink rule, but don't worry about whether I'm drinking a beer, glass of wine, or margarita. I doubt there is much damage you can do from two drinks, unless all you drink are of the fruity, mixed variety (daiquiris, margarita's, etc.). If this is the case, then make them S day ...

Interesting Book Review
I've been lurking for quite a while so I thought I'd join the discussion if I could add something worthwhile. I've been following the No S since this fall and at this point it's as automatic as getting dressed in the morning. If you can make it through a month, I'm convinced you can make it part of ...
